Born on the Shores
of Aruba
Miss Intercontinental began in 1971 as a promotional tourism event on the island of Aruba. On a beach in Oranjestad, 35 women dressed in red one-piece bathing suits competed for the very first crown — a modest start that would grow into one of the most enduring beauty pageants in the world.
The event drew strong television ratings from the start, and what began as a local competition quickly became an annual international event, expanding across continents throughout the 1970s and beyond.

Varvara Yakovenko is an 18-year-old student and professional model from Russia. She was crowned at the 53rd Miss Intercontinental held in Sahl Hasheesh, Egypt on January 29, 2026. She practices yoga and Pilates, and has a passion for dance and playing the harp.
